Clearblue Advance Ovulation tester and the Clearblue Ovulation monitor, with different results.

I have the Clearblue Advance Ovulation tester and the Clearblue Ovulation monitor. Using the same urine, I get different results. The Ovulation tester will say Peak (I do not get "high" days before "peak" days), and the monitor will say low or middle (only once have I got the "egg"/ovulation result). I have been testing for 4 cycles now, and I am frustrated. The sticks for both have the same markings after the test is complete. If I look at the stick and disregard the tester and monitor, how can I tell if I am having a "low", "high" or "peak" day?

Thanks for choosing Clearblue, Courtni.  The Clearblue Fertility Monitor works different than our ovulation tests, so it's possible you may receive different results.

Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation Tests track the changes in estrogen and LH throughout your menstrual cycle.  If the necessary changes in estrogen are detected, the holder will show High Fertility, and if an LH surge is detected, the holder will show Peak Fertility constantly for 48 hours.  Hormone levels vary from woman to woman, and if your estrogen level isn't high enough for the test to detect, it's possible for the test to change from Low Fertility to Peak Fertility without displaying High Fertility.  This can also happen if your hormone changes occur on the same day, or if a test is inadvertently missed.

The Clearblue Fertility Monitor compares each test stick to the next to establish your result and must detect a significant rise in estrogen in order to see Peak Fertility.  The monitor stores information about your results, so it learns about your fertility pattern.  We don't recommend reading your results from the test stick for either device.  Your result can only be read on the display and cannot be determine from any lines you may see on the test stick.

We'd love to chat with you so we can learn more and talk through your questions.  Please give us a call at 1-800-321-3279 and mention reference #FB785.  We're here Monday through Friday from 8:30am-5:00pm ET and would be happy to help.  Thanks!

I am using Clearblue Fertility Monitor for the first time this cycle and it is now Cycle day 17 (or 16 according to monitor) with low fertility. I also have the Clearblue Advanced Digital Connected which I have used since previous cycle. For the current cycle, it has shown me High fertility since Day 15. I am confused about the results. Which one is more accurate? I use the dipping method. Thank you.

It is expected that occasionally the results obtained with the Clearblue Fertility Monitor and Digital Ovulation Tests will vary slightly.

The different results can be attributed to the way the information collected is processed by each of the products:
  • The Clearblue Digital Ovulation Test is designed to be used for a single cycle
  • The Clearblue Fertility Monitor is a personalised system based on multiple cycle use
Provided you have tested correctly, not missing any test, and use the same urine sample, if the concentration of hormone in the urine sample is approaching a threshold level one product may trigger slightly earlier than the other. We recommend you use one of the two products to track your hormones throughout the cycle to avoid confusion, as the products process the results in separate ways we cannot always compare result obtained from two different products. To reassure you, your results are accurate if you meet the suitability criteria.

Hi Danielle,

Your results are personal to you as every woman is unique.

It's possible to observe different results from one cycle to another one. Please make sure you start testing on the day recommended based on your shortest cycle.

With this product, there are several combinations possible which depends on the individual and the cycle, because everybody is different and every cycle is different.

You saw one day of High Fertility before Peak Fertility.

We want to reassure you, if you started testing at the correct time, this is possible, it would indicate your estogen and LH rose closer together.

You can stop the test now, the smiley will stay on the holder for 48 hours and during these 48 hours, you need to have intercourse in order to maximize your chances to get pregnant. There is no need to do further tests for the rest of the cycle.

Regards,
Sally

Hi April,

If you have had your IUD recently removed we would recommend to wait at least 2 natural periods to occur before using the test so that you can calculate the length of your cycle. However, it is up to you if you wish to start testing sooner, we will not be able to recommend what day to start testing on, but you will need to count the first day of your full flow period as cycle day one (17th Jan).

In regards to your previous cycle, once Peak Fertility is seen you should stop testing for that given cycle, as there is no need to continue testing.

If you have two Holders you may use either one in your next cycle, provided you use the same Holder consistently throughout one cycle so that it may track your hormone changes. Both Holders would have reset, as the Holder will automatically reset after 3 or more days of not being used.

Sally-

Thanks for the reply.  I just didn't know I screwed up my readings for future use by continuing this week for four days and having High Fertility readings.  Glad to hear I didn't.  Does it get accustomed to me by using it prior and not new...as in adjust to how my first month went to find high fertility and peak this month?  Thanks again.

Hi April,

As the Holder resets after each cycle (if no test is performed for 3 or more days) it loses the information from the previous cycle and starts storing your hormone levels from scratch in the next cycle, therefore a previous cycle won't affect the next cycle.
