Thanks for your question, Jordan. HCG is a complex molecule that can be present in a variety of different forms in the urine of pregnant women. The molecule can be decorated with sugars (H-hCG or hyperglycosylated hCG), however most antibodies cannot tell the difference between the different glycosylation foms of hCG.
Our studies have shown that Clearblue tests are able to detect forms of hCG present in the urine in early pregnancy (4 days before the expected period). A sufficiently sensitive test should be able to provide early results, regardless of the form of hCG measured.
