Have I used the test correctly?

Hi, I have had operation to remove endometriosis 3 months ago and since then I have had 3 normal period cycles. I started using the Clearblue Digital Ovulation kit (only test LH) since Monday the 17/11/2014 always using FMU.

Yesterday Wednesday 19/11/2014 in the morning I tested and no smiley face. Later that morning I bought the Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation kit which test both estrogen and LH. I did not want to wait till today Thursday 20/11/2014 to first use the Advance Ovulation Kit so I waited 4 hours without going to the toilet and then I use the advance test kit and no smiley face, just a normal circle.

Today, Thursday 20/11/2014 I use FMU to test using both the Normal Digital Ovulation kit and the Advance Digital Ovulation kit. I got a smiley face on the Normal Digital Ovulation kit and I got a peak fertility smiley face on the Advance Digital Ovulation kit (I cant use the Advance Digital Ovulation kit for the next 2 days while the peak fertility smiley face is displayed.)

My question is, why did I not see a high fertility flashing smiley face with the advance digital ovulation kit yesterday? Could it be that it would have shown yesterday but because the advance digital ovulation kit was only purchased yesterday and it needed to get my base reading first? Or is it possible not to get an estrogen surge before LH surge, or is the test faulty?

Also is the Advance Digital Ovulation kit holder reusable? I understand that the normal digital ovulation kit the holder cannot be used once a smiley face is shown.

Hi, Melissa - thank you for contacting us.  This test is different from other ovulation tests in that it tracks the changes in 2 hormones throughout the menstrual cycle:  estrogen and LH.  If the necessary changes in estrogen are detected, the holder will show High Fertility (flashing smiley).  And if an LH surge is detected, the holder will show Peak Fertility (solid smiley).  It’s possible for the holder to change from Low to Peak without displaying High Fertility.  This can happen if your estrogen level isn’t high enough to be detected by the test, if your hormone changes occur on the same day, if a test is inadvertently missed, or if testing begins too late in your cycle.  You can be assured that you’ve still found your two best days to conceive.

Also, after 2 days, the screen will clear, and your Holder and any remaining test sticks can be saved for use in a future cycle.

Hope this helps!
