High fertility 3 days before my period?

I was using pink dye OPK strips for a few months when I decided to switch to using those in addition to the Clearblue Advanced. Both tests coordinated and I am also charting BBT. I definitely am 8 DPO right now, as confirmed by 3 separate ways of charting so. Out of pure curiosity yesterday, I tried a Clearblue and I got a flashing smiley. Curiosity totally peaked, I did another one today and got another flashing smiley. Now I am worried that I have a hormonal imbalance, why else would I get 2 flashing smileys in a row 3 days before my period? HPTs are negative.

Thanks for choosing Clearblue, Vanessa.  Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation Tests are different than other ovulation tests in that they track the changes in 2 key fertility hormones:  estrogen & LH.  If the necessary changes in estrogen are detected, High Fertility will be displayed as a flashing smiley.  And if an LH surge is detected, Peak Fertility will be displayed as a solid smiley for 2 days.

It's not necessary to continue testing once Peak Fertility has been detected.  Since you did test again, please keep in mind that a flashing smiley is reflecting your estrogen level, not LH.  Hope this helps!

Thanks. I know the test is picking up on high estrogen - is that a cause for concern so close to my period?

So, for what it's worth, I just got a BFP at 9 or 10 DPO. I wonder if the flashing smiley faces were indicating elevated estrogen b/c of pregnancy before I started making hcg.

After ovulation, the empty follicle produces estrogen.  If the egg is fertilized, estrogen will continue to be produced for about 8 weeks, until the placenta is mature enough to maintain the pregnancy.  Whether the egg is fertilized or not, the test can pick up on estrogen levels after ovulation.  Congratulations!

Hi Kelli.  It's likely that you are testing too late in your cycle.  For a 26 day cycle, you should start testing from cycle day 6 with the advanced product - by day 11 the hormone changes you are looking for may have already happened.  Stop testing for this cycle and if you need to test again next cycle, start from cycle day 6 where cycle day one is the first day of full menstrual flow.

Hi Sally , I tested with these after tracking my ovulation on the glow app. I tested with the CLear blue advance and received a blinking smiley for 14 days. I got my solid smiley this morning, however I am suppose to receive my period this week (like tomorrow) could that be correct and am I able to still have a chance or should just wait till next month? My husband and I bd last night as I notice changes in my body such as CM.

Thanks :)

Hi Brittney.  We would not expect you to see Peak right before your period.  It could be that you are having a longer cycle than usual.  If your period does not start tomorrow we recommend that you take a pregnancy test and see your Doctor if you have any concerns.  Best wishes.

I’m so confused. I had high fertility 11/11/18 through 11/14/2018 and peaked on 11/15/2018! I was due for period on 11/28/2018. I also had high fertility 11/24/2014 through 11/26/2018 and peaked again on 11/27/2018. Started perdiod on 11/28/2018. Is it possible to ovulated twice in one month? If possible can you get pregnant one day before your perdiod?

Hi Shelly,

The results you have described which were seen from the 11/11 through till the 11/15 seem to be what we would typically expect. We would not typically expect a genuine LH Surge just before your period starts, but it is normal to see High Fertility after ovulation as there is a second rise in estrogen which can be detected if you carry on testing. We recommend you stop testing when you see Peak Fertility.  The Holder has not shown an error so there is no indication that it is faulty.  Misleading results can be caused by medication containing LH or hCG, medical conditions such as PCOS or menopause or recent pregnancy in the last 9 weeks.  As you have received unexpected results we recommend you discuss them with your Doctor.   We'd be happy to chat if you'd like to talk through your questions.  Feel free to call us at  1-800-321-3279 and mention reference 001981116A.  We're open weekdays from 8:30-5:00 ET.

I am currently using the clear blue ovulation tests and I started them on the 22nd and no nothing popped up on the screen . The 24th I received a blinking smiley and have since then. Today I started my period. My Dr told me before insemination I need to receive a solid smiley. I’m so confused.

Hi Ashley,

It seems you may have detected the second rise in estrogen which occurs after ovulation. This can happen if you start testing too late in the cycle, therefore please calculate your shortest and longest cycle length, and then use your shortest cycle length to determine when to start testing (this is in the leaflet). Your Doctor has correctly informed you that the solid smiley (Peak Fertility) is the best time for the IUI. The blinking smiley continues to show until the solid smiley is detected, your Holder will however reset itself after 3 or more days of not being used.
