high vs. peak fertility and cervix action

I use a program on my tablet to keep track of my cycles. It tells me when I should be fertile and ovulate using data from previous and current cycles. I started using the advanced OPK kit when that program said to. I started 1 week ago today. First two tests were negative but then every day thru yesterday I got a flashing smiley. Had intercourse two of those days and did a self-insemination on one of the other days. Today (day 7 of testing) I finally got a solid smiley face. I had my hubby check my cervix and it was completely closed up tight. Why would the test show peak fertility if my cervix is not open and ready?
