No flashing smiley face

I started testing and for the last 5 days I've had the smiley face and today just the circle. No flashing smiley face. I made sure we were sexually active every day I had the smiley face too. Is it possible I did not ovulate? Could I still have gotten pregnant during that time? I'm using the test with the purple cap.

Hi Amber Marie, we're glad you're using Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation Tests.  This test tracks the changes in estrogen and LH throughout the menstrual cycle.  If the necessary changes in estrogen are detected, High Fertility will be displayed (flashing smiley).  If the necessary changes in LH are detected, Peak Fertility will be detected (solid smiley).

It's possible that the test change change from Low Fertility to Peak Fertility without displaying High Fertility.  There are a few possible causes for this.  This can happen if your estrogen level isn't high enough to be detected by the test, if the estrogen & LH changes occur close together, if a test is inadvertently missed, or if testing began too late in your cycle.  Not to worry though, you can still be assured that you've found your 2 most fertile days to try to conceive.  We've got our fingers crossed for you!

Thank you for your reply. I'm almost wondering if maybe I did have a peak and not read the test properly. All I was looking for was a smiley face and not one that was blinking. I noticed the next day I couldnt get the test to work. Out of routine I was trying to insert a new test strip and was having errors. I read now that if you hit a peak the smiley face stays on the screen for 48 hours? Maybe I thought it was broken and started cramming stick in it to fix it (oops) Now it just displays the book symbol. Regardless I bought a new one and it shows an empty circle now.

According to my tracking - I had the smiley face for a total of 5 days. We only missed one day in there but have been trying for 3 months. Is 5 days considered short? How long after I ovulate do I have to wait to start testing for a pregnancy?

Thanks for writing back, Amber.  The number of High Fertility days (flashing smiley) displayed each cycle reflects your unique hormone patterns and can vary from woman to woman.  Once Peak Fertility is identified (solid smiley), the smiley will remain on the screen for 48 hours as a reminder that this is your most fertile time.  It's not necessary to continue testing once Peak Fertility has been detected, and it's not possible to test again while a result remains on the screen.

Since you received an error symbol, it would be great if we could speak with you so we can take care of this for you.  So I can give you the correct Careline phone number to call, in which country are you located?

Lastly, you can test with a Clearblue pregnancy test as early as 5 days before your missed period, which is 4 days before you expect your period to start.  If you have no idea when your period is due, we recommend that you wait at least 19 days from the last day you had unprotected sex to test for pregnancy.

We hope this helps and look forward to hearing back from you!
