Ovulating again?

I had a very strange 40 day cycle last month (typically it's between 27-31 days). After my doc recommended using the clearblue advanced digital tests rather than the other brand I had been using, I purchased the CB. Even though I thought it too early to start testing, I began testing once every couple of days after my period just to be safe since I had no idea when ovulation could occur after the crazy 40 day cycle. I rec'd a couple of low results (again, every other day), and was very surprised to see the peak ovulation smiley face indicating the LH Surge already on day 8. We proceeded accordingly. The solid smiley face stayed solid for 48 hours as it was supposed to. I know I wasn't supposed to test again until the next cycle, but I felt compelled to anyways. So on day 10 of the cycle I took the test and it came back with a low fertility circle. Makes sense. Then I took it again this a.m. (day 12) and was very surprised to see the flashing smiling face indicating high fertility. What does this mean? Please advise - thanks!

Thanks for getting in touch, Amy.

There is a second rise in estrogen after ovulation so it’s normal to see more High Fertility days if you carry on testing after Peak.  There is no value in continuing to test after you first see Peak Fertility – you have found your most fertile time.  You can save any remaining test sticks to use in a future cycle if required.  We hope this helps.  Wishing you all the best!

Thanks Jessica. So, I went ahead and took the test again the next day anyways, and it came up with a solid smiley face, indicating peak ovulation (again). This is just 5 days after the first smiley. Do you think I have a faulty test kit?

Thanks for getting in touch again, Amy.  Our test shows Peak Fertility when it detects a rise in Luteinising Hormone (LH).  LH is always present in your system.  A typical baseline level would be 3-13mIU/ml and a typical 'surge' would be 50-200mIU/ml.  Our tests should always detect a surge at 40mIU/ml or above and can detect a surge as low as 22mIU/ml.

If your natural baseline level regularly exceeds 22mIU/ml then it is possible that you will get multiple 'surge' results during a cycle and not all of these surges will result in ovulation.  There are also certain medical conditions and medications that can give you misleading results.  We do advise you to discuss your results with your doctor.  We hope this helps!
