Smiley face on 1 day only

I have been getting a smiley face result only on a single day each cycle. It turns into negative the very next day. There have been cycles where I feel like I should have been positive the day before the smiley face result. Should my partner and I only try on a single day then, or should we still keep trying for 48 hours post the smiley face?
